About

The University of Calgary is seeking a supplier for one fully integrated, containerized solar microgrid system designed for deployment in Northern Alberta’s cold climate, with a maximum movable load of approximately 15,000 lb suitable for transport by a regular truck. The system must include a mobile container unit (built on a platform or insulated 20’/40’ shipping container sized to the proposer’s design) that houses all electrical components, battery storage, and control systems in a secure, weatherproof, ventilated and cold-rated enclosure; a rooftop solar PV array of 10–20 panels rated 400W–500W each with fixed or expandable mounting, wiring, combiner boxes and remote data acquisition/monitoring; a battery energy storage system providing 40 kWh usable energy and 5 kW continuous output with pricing and technical comparisons for flooded lead-acid (FLA), lithium iron phosphate (LFP) and other cost-effective alternatives, including BMS, safety disconnects and ventilation as required; an integrated control and electrical panel with AC/DC wiring, breakers, surge protection, metering, capability to accept grid or generator input for temporary charging, hybrid operation (solar + grid/generator) with automatic transfer switching, and remote IoT/web-based monitoring; and optional components including a flatbed mover for relocation and transportation from fabrication site to the University of Calgary.
