Progressive design-build team sought for the renewal of the National Institute of Nanotechnology (NINT) building on the University of Alberta North Campus. The six‑storey research facility with a full basement, mechanical penthouse and 23,826 m² gross area (constructed 2007) houses laboratories, offices, basement clean rooms and microscope labs with vaults, and is linked by a second‑floor pedway to the Chemical‑Materials Engineering and Mechanical Engineering buildings; a small 80 m² mechanical room was added on the 1st floor in 2012. The project follows a progressive design‑build model and includes Scope A: high‑density research labs and cleanrooms; Scope B: facility‑wide energy efficiency upgrades; and Scope C: renovation of indirect supportive spaces and infrastructure.
